I was driving home through the city of La Coruņa in northern Spain enjoying the view out over a bay with a beach, called Santa Cristina, when I noticed a brilliant light in the sky at a height of some 400 feet. what surprised me initially was that I couldn't define its colour, it was the same feeling you get with a 'black light' in a nightclub, but the colour was somewhere between a brilliant apricot/ochre, another strange effect is that it was incredibly bright but didn't hurt my eyes like a strong spotlight would have done. We stopped the car (my wife was driving) to watch the light, it was quite a windy day with people walking along the beach, there were dozens of people stopped to watch the light as it really was quite beautiful, hovering completely static below low clouds with absolutely no movement whatsoever as you would expect from a helicopter. It was impossible to make out any shape at all, just a ball of light with rays shining out from it like a kid's painting of the sun. It just stayed put for about 20 minutes then suddenly shot upwards without a sound and disappeared above the clouds. Everyone around just looked really happy to have seen something so strange and beautiful, although quite a few were rubbing their necks from looking upwards so long! As we drove off, I looked back over the beach and down the bay towards the city's port, and was surprised to see a disembodied light of the same wierd colour hovering just above the water line apparently surrounded by fishing boats, the strange thing was it wasn't reflecting on the water, and as we drove about another 50 yards it just suddenly blinked off. The sighting was given a few column inches in the local press, but was seen by loads of people and became quite a talking point for a good while, the Spanish are a pretty pragmatic people, the general reaction was 'yup, it was a UFO, big deal'.

I guess we all felt kind of awestruck at seeing this thing, it was very obviously not man-made or a natural phenomenon like ball lightning, but we also felt a strange feeling of calm, there was nothing threatening or disturbing involved, just a very pretty light hovering totally silently over our heads in broad daylight.
