Appearance / Description of Object(s)
It was black and well lighted as it passed directly overhead. Subjectively, it looked big and moved slowly compared to fixed wing or rotary wing craft, but I have no idea about size or altitude. When I flew it was at a small airport with pattern altitude about 650' above the ground. The craft I observed could have been 500 to 1500' above grade. Seemed to be regular red and green Nav lights, white strobe, blue light and four to six bright white lights on the stern. No Ailerons, flaps, horizontal, vertical stabilizers, rudder or elevator flying control surfaces were noted. The color was black. I didn't notice identifying markings like an N number. I don't recall antennaes, but the sighting was over 13 years ago for me.
Description of Area / Surroundings
Small city under 10,000 pop. Scott AFB is East 20-25 MI or so, Downtown St. Lous Airport Cahokia about 10 Mi by air NNE, heading was generally toward Spirit of St. Louis airport about 20 Mi NNW, or Lambert airport maybe 30 mi., St. Charles Munis (now closed) and St. Charles County untowered airports were about 35 to 40 mi NNE. Just guessing about distances since I didn't get out a VFR chart to check.
Full Description & Details
I am retired, in various jobs and hobbies I worked with aerial photos, helped build the Interstate for the DOT, navigated submarines for USN, for myself flew airplanes long enough to solo, and joined the Experimental Aircraft Association. I prefer to have my comments remain anonymous. Anyone who comments on my background would almost certainly identify me, so I prefer to have almost none of that information in an accessible report.
I would estimate the direction of the craft when it finally passed over my location (to remain anonymous 910 Hillcrest St) .was about 350 to 355 magnetic. My attention was first attracted by the barking of dogs to my East which would be in the direction of Millstadt, IL maybe about 10 miles away. Then the sound of barking seemed to intensify to my South. The sound from the air was very distinctive, and that is what I want to add to the file data.
The sound I attribute to the craft was a humming type of sound like an electric ceiling fan starting up as if swinging first rapidly then slowing down against resistance. The sound seemed to be generated from more than one source as if there were a number of the motorized sources, as if one was starting before the previous had completed its cycle. At a guess there could have been anywhere from three to seven of the sound sources.
I am aware now of Rapid Spinning Disc Research, Jeffrey Nau Patent 7,663,281 maybe in suppressed patents by now, and Bob Lazar disclosures. I was not aware of those sources at the time of the observation.
be explained as any conventional man-made or natural
I wouldn't be surprised to learn the craft was an experimental man made craft.
Views on UFOs, before and after sighting
I was a long time science fiction fan. Under hypnosis I might have very surprising suppressed information regarding contacts, but nothing I would be able to volunteer while not hypnotized. If I have important information I would like to share it, but I may not have any. I would prefer to remain anonymous if I have any useful, but I would like to know some of it.
With galaxies like grains of sand it is unreasonable to believe that the present terrestial life form humans are the only self aware beings who might aspire to the stars. Humans followed the reptiles/reptoids who had some 450 milliion year lead on humans during which extraterrestrial life forms may well have developed gravity drive long before us and moved on beyond gravity drive to something more exotic like direct applications of matter/antimatter in drives we can only imagine.
