Appearance / Description of Object(s)

At a closer look it looked like a giant amoeba flowing on air. Spreading and contracting, moving along with the help of the wind current. It looked like an alive cloud. I could see its texture. It was not metallic. It was one body of thick smoke-like substance, fluid. There was only just a smaller satellite "ball" of this stuff that was spinning right behind the bigger body, as if it was attached to it by an invisible thread. I still do not understand what I saw. When it flew over the campus it disappeared behind the hills of Kavala. It was not balloons as light could not pass through it and it was not birds as there was absolutely no noise. It was not man made as I do not recognize any material like metal or plastic or glass that humans use to make flying devises. It looked alive or organic. And when the taxi arrived to pick me up, everything returned to normality. Nobody in town seemed alarmed by its appearance. There was nothing in the local or national news about this and the people in the city went on their normal business. So I thought it was something normal. Perhaps some gas escaping from a near by factory. But a gas would dissolve in the air, wouldn't it?

It was moving like an amoeba in the sky, the size of a medium sized whale, flowing effortlessly with the help of the wind.

A hill above the city of Kavala. Urban area below, harbor, sea, and university campus. Hills, forest and factories behind the campus.

I was visiting a friend in Kavala's University, a city in the northern province of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace in northern Greece. I was serving my military service in the Greek-Turkish borders and they gave me 3 days off to go and visit my family that at the time was living in Drama, another small Greek city near the Greek-Bulgarian borders. On the way I stopped for one day visit to my childhood friend and his girlfriend that were both studying in Kavala. I stayed at their campus room that was in the university's campus on the top of a hill above the city. We had some drinks. I only drank two cans of beer, not enough in my opinion to make me hallucinate or see things that are not there.

When it was time to leave and catch my bus to go and spend the millennium new year's Eve with my family, we ordered a taxi to take me to the bus station. I was standing on my own on the campus' entrance that was on the top of the hill, when I notices something floating above the harbor of Kavala. It big enough and it seemed like a blubber or a black cloud above the city. I thought that was a bunch of balloons that were meant to be released for the celebrations of the new millennium.

But this thing started moving and coming towards the campus. It moved very slowly but steadily as if it was following a wind current. The more it approached the more I was captivated by it. Nobody was around near me to show it to him. Suddenly the city was very quiet. I though everybody was asleep in preparations for the big party to come. It was mid afternoon after all.

I kept watching it as it approached. It came to a point that it was flying right above me. At first I though it was a flock of birds. But there was no sound coming from it. And not only that, everything went very quiet around me. I could only listen to the wind blowing. Nothing else. At a closer look it looked like a giant amoeba flowing on air. I still do not understand what I saw. When it flew over the campus it disappeared behind the hills of Kavala. I did not mentioned this to anyone for years. I never said anything to my family that day. I thought that it should be something normal as there was no mention in the news. Kavala is a city of a few hundred thousand people. Wouldn't anybody else have seen anything? That thing was big enough and it was broad day light when it appeared. After a few years a mentioned it to some people, but they just looked at me as in disbelief.I never felt comfortable discussing it, because nobody of the few people that I mentioned it knew anything about it, and they looked at me as just to say that I was just seeking their attention. Nobody ever has heard of this before.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

No. Not in my understanding. Perhaps a more experienced person or a scientist can solve this mystery once and for all for me.

Then I was just serving my service in the Greek army, as a Greek national. Now I have migrated to Ireland, where I live for the past 8 years. I work in the public sector. Back in Greece I was working in the Greek customer service/ hotel/tourism industry.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

Still a skeptic. But open to anything. UFO sightings usually describe an object that resembles a craft. Metallic with lights. Something that could be built by man or extraterrestrials This is was not built by anything........ Apparently.
