analysis paper

what would be a good sentence to start off a analysis paper on the strengths and weaknesses of the conflicting sides of the question, is there other life in the unviverse?

I suppose it depends on your audience.

You might try something like...

There are numerous theories which state, that statistically,
given the size of the universe and the number of stars
which should have earth like planets, life should be
observably abundant, yet what constitutes 'observably
abundant' has been a matter of great debate.
