building such a wooden cabin is a long dream of mine..where could l learn to build one or join people who are into such stuff?
?
OutsideFun1

OutsideFun1 7 hours ago

That was my first question when I started getting serious about building my own cabin. Sadly, I had trouble finding anyone who could pass their knowledge along to me. Here are two places you could start though: 1- I actually have started a series on my channel that talks about cabin building. I plan to keep adding more episodes in the future. 2- I learned a lot of my stuff from watching the documentary called "Alone in the Wilderness- Dick Proenneke"
?
Wyatt Regan

Wyatt Regan 13 hours ago

How long did you let the logs sit to dry/shrink before using them in construction?
?
OutsideFun1

OutsideFun1 7 hours ago

Ideally, I should have felled the logs in spring, debarked them immediately, set them off the ground out of the rain, and let them dry for at least one year. But because of time & money constraints, I simply cut the trees down and immediately used them in the construction of the cabin.

Some guys, also use them immediately for construction, but debark them first. The thinking behind doing it that way is that the logs will dry anyway. No matter what, debarking is best.

Did you build this on private property?
?
OutsideFun1

Yup. I didn't want to risk building on crown land where it could be torn down by the MNR.

Alone in the Wilderness is great. Probably one of the best references for learning how to build a log cabin. Proenneke was THE MAN!

Nice job on the cabin. Very cool...

No I didn't use any plans. For the most part, I had the design in my head. When I put the roof on though, I did do a quick to scale sketch of what it'd look like.

Thanks for the tutorial. I followed, well sort of, and made a fairly heavy mallet for my not so sharp chisels. I made a few mistakes and took a few short cuts, used a round over router on the handle etc. BUT in the end it turned out quite well. Thanks again, and please keep the videos coming. Always enjoyed.

Purchase used tools. Look for a long time until you find one a a bargain. Expect to have to repair it. For example, many motors need their bearings replaced, and it's not hard to do. Look for larger tools with induction motors rather than entry-level tools with universal motors (especially be careful with table saws, many affordable ones have universal motors).

Everything you accomplish so much machinery and endless, that I saw at a trade of a craftsman in Segovia, a string of A PIECE OF WOOD WHOLE WITHOUT HALF split it into more than 80cm, years ago, sure did with a couple of tools without much effort. greetings.

what about checking to see if the glue and wooden plug havent added weight as well as the lead shouldnt you have added these components in the ballancing and when its dry . yanks dont seem to want to see things right through plus they think pitch and diameter are all you need to make a prop and always forget the width of the prop for some one else to figure out and the calculus needed to do so for motor power to width to diameter to pitch then aspect ratio comes last not first as yanks think

Presumably the balance will be re-checked after the weight if installed and the glue has dried. I used to balance car and truck wheels, and it's obvious that the balance need finally confirming before the prop goes to the customer.

The wood cap and epoxy is about the same density as the wood removed, so the only real increase in mass is the lead.

Guys, this isn't that hard. Just take into account the weight of the wood plug, the epoxy and the varnish when you make the lead plug.

It won't be much, because Lead is 16 times more dense than maple, and the lead plug is 3x as long as the wood plug. That makes the lead almost 50 times heavier than the wood. Go easy on the epoxy, though.

I didn't hear them mention that the hole needs to be deep enough to reach center so the lead is centered front to back.

It looks counter intuitive but the propeller bellow gravity center make the system self stable.

just take 2 minutes to think about it and you will agree.

It is also true that the idea to fall through a propeller is somewhat unpleasant and this is probably the big reason for the lack of success of the concept

Meanwhile for multi rotor this concept should be revisited
