where are they indeed??

My name is aaron wenger. My graduate research was on creating a model for comet nuclei. I suspect the overwhelming factor in answering responding to Fermi's old question is the lifetime of technological civilizations. For instance had a super capable technology tried to contact us when Lewis and Clark set off in 1804--just to tell them that there were no mastadons west of the Missippi--there was not a single piece of technology, nor even a guess that such a technology would someday be possible, on earth that would have detected any type of information bearing signal short of physically shouting in the explorer's ears. Would be communicators not only have to know with what planet to try, but also when in time their signal needs to arrive to have a chance of success. Even direct, physical "visits" have the same time constraint. Only perhaps in the last 100 years out of at least a million years of "humans" would we be able to see extra-solar life as anything but demon, witch, or god. What exactly could a star travelling life form ever have communicated to a Viking?? For interstellar communication, timing id indeed everything!

Fermi's Paradox

It's easy to ask "Where is everybody?" as a joke when you've already decided, without examining the evidence, that no one has come. In fact, they came a very long time ago.
