Radar

40 years ago whilst living in the UK, a friend now dead worked as a technician at RAF Cotswold which was at the time a Bomber base for the 'V' force using HP VIctors against the Russians. He told me that the radar controllers would routinely pick up objects flying at very high speed on their radar. Reporting these incidents required lots of paperwork and the possibility of being branded as incompetant. So, when these incidents occured, they watched, hoped that it wasn't the Russians, and sighed with relief when the 'bogies' disappeared off the screens. Some of the traces were doing over 2000 mph. Others even more. It was a safe bet at the time that it was not the Russians!
I think that this occured with other Countries and other radar operators, but little has been said about it. I am sure it still continues.
