Appearance / Description of Object(s)
It looked like the reflection of oil floating on water, but retained its shape perfectly. It was about 10 meters wide and about 30 meters long. It first struck me as the engine residue from a boat, but what would it be in such a perfect form as opposed to being dispursed gradually with the waves.

Nothing around the island at all - the island is a remote island with no human presense.

I was a crew chief in the US Army stationed in Panama. On a routine flight west of Panama in the Pacific Ocean, I witnessed a cigar shaped object in the water 10 meters from an island. I was 20 and remember the object as being very odd, but didn't mention it to my warrant officer pilots because I was new and didn't want to come across as "seeing things". I recall just staring at it in awe thinking how odd it was to retain its perfect shape in such rough waters. The object was in a cove by the island and didn't move as we flew over it.

Not at all - not until I read about USO's did I finally realize what it was I saw.
