Comet shaped and glowing all the colors in the rainbow, but not all at once, it was more like pulses of colors.

Mostly urban area, but near a state park. No special sites per say.

I was about 10 years old and waiting for my mother to finish choir practice at our church. It was nighttime and I was bored, so I went to play on the sidewalk next to the the church hall with my sister. I was looking above the church steeple and noticed what I thought to be a shooting star. I called out to my then 6 year old sister to look at the shooting star. Now right there I knew something was unusual as shooting stars last seconds, a blink of the eye. But this "shooting star" was going slow enough for me to call out to my sister and her to look up and me to say something along the lines of "Oh my God!". It changed in color very rapidly, it seemed to glow all the colors in the rainbow and then in a flash, it was gone. We were so petrified, we started banging on the church hall door (which had locked behind us) to be let back in. Something about the whole experience really shook us up. I'd never seen anything like it and never have since.
Can sighting
be explained as any conventional man-made or natural
object?
Maybe a comet? I checked the news for a week after hoping it would be explained, but saw no mention of a comet or even a meteor shower.
Personal Background
Stay-at-home mom. But at the time of the sighting, I was a student in elementary school.
Views on UFOs, before and after sighting
I read quite a bit about UFO's after the sighting, hoping to find someone who had a similiar story to no avail. I believe in UFO's now after my sighting.
