A huge red ball with a long black vapor trail and was only about 500 ft off the ground and could hear it like fire shooting across the sky. vaor trail lasted a good 5min

When fishing on the Odel Creek just outside of town (Ennis) we heard a swishing sound, like a ball of fire shooting across the sky. It was a big ball of fire which couldn't be 500 ft off the ground and we watched it as is shot across the valley knowing there wasn't any way it would clear the mountains it was heading towards. It was huge with a long black vapor trail. The paper reported it was a military jet on fire but no other news was ever found regarding this. Would like to know if you have any information regarding this.
