I was awaiting a bus home on the outskirts of town when I saw the object, a large, glowing ' ball of fire' with a trail, going horizontal to the horizon, roughly North to South , a man came along and stood near me at the bus stop, I watched the object, so did he, I glanced at him and he me, I said to him '' are you seeing whatI'm seeing ? '' he replied ''yes''. I then said that I thought it may be the comet they were talking about on the news earlier that day, he agreed.
We watched the 'comet' for several minutes.
Later, when I arrived home, the late evening news was on, so, I guess it was around 10pm by then, the news was talking about the comet, I said to my husband ''ah, I just saw that at the top of Birkfield Drive'' my husband said '' don't be silly, they jusy said it cannot be seen from Earth as such. What the heck had I seen then ?
I have often wondered if I ought to try and find that man at the bus stop to confirm my story. Let me know if you guys ever hear from him !

the 'comet' came up from the town direction on a north-south path, if we call the horizon ' the 9 to 3 line on a clock, the 'comet' was travelling at 10 to 2 path, just above the horizon.
our local paper here is THE EAST ANGLIAN DAILY TIMES, and its sister paper THE EVENING STAR. I do not know if anything was reported, I no longer remenber the date, my daughter was born 29TH August1975, and she was a baby at the time of the sighting, it was a cool evening, so, sometime from Sept 75 - Apr76 I guess, IT WAS A NIGHT WHEN A KNOWN COMET WAS DUE
