My wife and I were returning home to Kelso,Wa from our honeymoon in Florida and had just left Ft Lauderdale for Dallas Ft Worth,TX.We were flying on American Airlines on a Boeing 767.There was a large thunderstorm in progress over Florida and we had been informed that we may be flying higher than normal in order to evade this storm.The storm was almost as large as the width of the state of Florida.I could see fires in the Everglades that had started because of the lightning.We had just come to the west coastline of Florida at 8:30 pm EST,and I was looking out the window facing south.That is when I noticed a silver flash below us and to the south.I thought it might be another plane with a silver hull.This object was heading north which would intersect our flight but it seemed to be below us quite some distance so I didnt have any concern at all.As I watched this object get closer it seemed to be moving fairly fast and as it got closer I noticed its shape came into view.This object was not any plane Ive ever seen before it came into focus as being a silver disk.At this point I became a little nervous because it definatly was not a plane.Almost immediatly after thinking this, the object just shot off at an incredible speed underneath our plane and dissappeared from my site.Right after this the plane we were flying in went into a steep climb and the engines kicked in hard.We climbed to about 40,000 ft and then leveled off.I told my wife but nobody else and I didnt want to alert any other passengers because of the fear of terrorism and how they might react if they knew something had passed so close to us. I thought it was rather coincidental that our plane went into such a steep climb right after this happened.Maybe coincidence, maybe deliberate evasion tactics, I still wonder.I would be curious to know how many others saw this object and if they reprted it.
