Summary:  Driving up Malibu rd just before 10 pm 4 of us saw an unexplainable object over the s/w sky. It was white in color and significantly larger than a star. As opposed to a shooting star it was not falling but rather moving parallel to the horizon. After a short period a fireworks like tail appeared, disappeared and then reappeared. After a few minutes the entire object disappeared.
