There are several bodies of water in the area. Full Description & DetailsMy former husband and I were driving from Birmingham to Sumiton on a night in late December, 1973. The time was approximately 9:00 PM (this is based on memory, but it is fairly close). We both saw a huge object directly overhead, which did not make any sound and seemed to be perfectly still. It was in the shape of a chevron, or boomerang, with lights of different colors along the front leading edge. There were no other automobiles present at the time. The weather was overcast, with low clouds and misty rain. Due to the weather conditions and the size of the object in relation to the trees on either side of the road, I would estimate the width of the object to be at least 100 yards, and that it was at an elevation of about 200 to 400 feet. This was directly over Highway 78 in Alabama, near the county line between Jefferson and Walker counties. The object made absolutely no sound, and suddenly disappeared. It did not seem to move away, but to disappear from view without moving. When we arrived at the home of the person we were going to visit, which was about a mile away, she told us that other neighbors and family friends had seen similar objects recently. There are no military bases nearby, nor any major airports. Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object? No Witness BackgroundI have been in sales for thirty years. I have approximately two years of college. Views on UFOs, before and after sightingI had no views before the sighting, and I had never studied the phenomenon prior to that. I have only told a few people about the incident, because of the fear of ridicule. I have tried to explain it in terms of traditional flying objects, but the facts defy logical explanation. We were young at the time, but we did not drink alcohol or engage in other activities that would cause distorted perception. Other CommentsWhen I told my husband about the incident, he asked if I was afraid. I was not afraid, but VERY interested in knowing what I had seen. I was startled, and amazed, but not afraid. In fact, I felt very calm, which seems strange in retrospect. It was as though I were watching a movie, emotionally removed from the event.
