UFO Sighting Report

August, 1977

Lake Temagami, Ontario, Canada

My friend and I were watching the night sky after seeing the aurora borealis (around 9:30pm)... we watched what we thought was a high altitude plane... silent and moving toward the center of the sky. In a split second it changed direction (~30 degrees) and zipped off at considerable speed.

Date Reported:

Sighting Time:

No. of Witnesses:

1 min or so

Appearance / Description of Object(s)

Again it looked like a high altitude plane or satellite. It was a steady white light, the light was not pulsating.

Size of Object(s)

Again it looked like a high altitude plane or satellite.

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

30,000-50,000 ft???

Description of Area / Surroundings

We were on an island in Lake Temagami. Very, very dark and peaceful. A beautiful clear night to watch the northern lights.

Full Description & Details

It really did look like a plane at 30,000 ft or so. No sound was emitted. We both just followed it with our eyes since it was the only thing in the night sky moving. Didn't question what it was until it made the "turn". It wasn't a turn... it was an instant change in direction and it flew out of the area at tremendous speed. We both said to each other, "did you see that?" We pondered what it could have been. After the turn, it's speed was nearly as fast as a falling star but we knew they don't change direction. We also thought it could be a satellite but again, they stay in one direction.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

No... for 35 years I've pondered what we saw. Unless a shooting star hit a satellite or plane, I have no explanation.

Witness Background

I'm now a mother of three boys living in Delaware, USA. I have a Bachelors degree, and love science, the arts, and nature.

Views on UFOs, before and after sighting

Didn't really think about UFO's before that day. Now I'm totally convinced!
