Appearance / Description of Object(s)
It was too far away for a clear view and merely looked like a sphere of light about one fifth the size of the moon when it is high in the sky. The color seemed to slowly shift in the red/orange spectrum.
Size of Object(s)
From the distance it was away from me it seemed small, but judging from it's position and the houses on the hill around the same distance away I would have to say it's actual size was that of a small house. As above, the relative size was about one fifth the size of the moon when directly overhead.
Description of Area / Surroundings
Fairchance is a small borough with only one stop light and a population of around 2,000. It is in rolling hill terrain at the base of a larger mountain. Definitely more rural. The only site of any interest that I am aware of is the laurel caverns at the top of the mountain East of town.
Full Description & Details
I was walking home from work at the local Shop N' Save to my home a mile North as I usually do and as I was walking up the firehall hill I noticed this fairly bright reddish orange sphere almost directly East of me between me and the mountain. I would have to estimate by the distance from me that it must have been about the size of an average one bedroom house. At first it didn't seem to move but I stopped walking and noticed it was slowly moving toward me. It then turned slowly right, left, then back toward the mountain. Several times it seemed to stop and hover. It then started moving North along the mountain. I noticed a plane coming toward it from the West and as the plane got near it the light from the sphere seemed to dim. The object stopped, seemed to start spinning counter clockwise and then simply winked out from it's left edge to the right as the plane went over my head and got near it. The plane circled the area once then disappeared over the mountain. The plane made the usual noise but no sound at all seemed to eminate from the sphere.
Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?
The only thing I could possibly relate it to in regards to a man-made object would be a hot air ballon, seeing how it made no noticable sound. It would have had to have a light source within it that was evenly distributed around the entire circumfrence, not brighter in any one area (such as the flame burner of a balloon). And that light would have to be able to be extinguished from a left to right (counterclockwise) spin.
Pretty much an average guy, though a bit more cerebral than most and inclined toward both scientific and spiritual pursuits. Practical to a fault and always searching for the deepest layer of Truth I can uncover in every area. Constantly looking for understanding of all experiences in this journey called life. Perhaps a bit non-commital in many areas, simply because I am acutely aware of my own ignorance in so many things but definitely know the difference between fact and faith.
Views on UFOs, before and after sighting
I am at least as aware of them as the general public, perhaps with a slightly higher interest in and knowledge of them. And while I am generally infused with an objective skepticism I do strongly believe that as big as this universe is it seems highly unlikely to me that we on Earth are the only civilization in it. This has always been my view since I first became aware of the possibility of such phenomena when I was just a boy.
This is not the first time I had witnessed something of this nature that I could find no conventional explanation for. It is only the most recent of three, the other two were both in California when I lived there back in the 80's. Such things neither frighten nor excite me. I only happened to hear of a recent sighting of the same sort in my area just last week by several folks and while looking for any postings about it I found this site and decided to post this report in case it could be useful.
