Appearance / Description of Object(s)
It changes colors from yellow to orange to green. It changes shape and resembles a lotus flower of fiery whitish green light, and gyrates and wiggles when looking at it through a telescope. At one point the thing looked like a man shape, then it had a multitude of "legs" of light making it resemble a bug shape. We thought with binoculars we were too shaky to see well enough, so we borrowed a friend's basic telescope with tripod. This revealed it was the thing - not us - which was jittering about all over in our sights.
Size of Object(s)
This is not close inside of our atmosphere, perhaps, and looks like the brightest star in the sky if glanced upon without remarking upon it. It can be covered up by one finger tip. However, it varies in size throughout the evening, and I have been told one can witness its "departure" from the western sky around four a.m., though I (myself) have not yet witnessed this. I suspect it is a ginormous object of mind-blowing proportions which is hurling itself through space and time at a rate we could never conceive of with our limited human brains.
Description of Area / Surroundings
Oildale is a Census Designated Place (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oildale,_California) in the northwestern part of the city of Bakersfield, in Kern County, California, USA.
Full Description & Details
It is a large, bright thing, which appears around dusk every night and travels against the sky's rotation. Our telescope is not high powered, and it can be seen with the naked eye. Even some binoculars will reveal when used that this is not a normal sky object. I do not know why I have not seen any other info on this yet with some brief research. It is obvious and constant each day and I suspect this object is what I have been noticing for over a year that I have always thought looks like something hurling itself through space coming towards us at a hyper-speed pace, though I am not 100% certain. Therefore, I will report it is at least a week been there, as friends of my boyfriend and I alerted us to its occurrence around then and I first saw it myself the next night - about a week ago. Our friends, though, claim they saw with a high powered telescope, sixteen different ones just like it coming and going over the Rosedale (suburb of Bakersfield) night sky one night before they told us about it. It is not a star, nor satellite, nor a plane. It also, I may not overemphasize, moves against the rotation of the night sky, which moves east to west. This thing moves from west to north west to west again only it is clearly bigger (closer), then it will travel east-ish... I can see no other name for this after seeing it magnifies just a small degree other than Unidentified Flying Object.
Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?
We both - my boyfirend and I - always differ as to our viewpoints and opinions, throughout our time knowing each other as I am very paranoia/anti-establishment and he is fairly conservative. Like Black-Metal Rock n' Roll and Talk radio, respectively. Therefore, it is not a subjective event but a factual one. Our friends are auto-mechanics and I have no idea how many people they have told/shown who may have seen as well.
Views on UFOs, before and after sighting
I believe it is pompous and ludicrous to assume we are the only intelligent life - or the only life-bearing planet - in the whole friggin' Universe.
