Full Description & Details

I was approximately 8 years old and had gone to sleep. I woke up for no apparent reason, and walked down the hall (50 feet) into my parents' room. I went to the left side of the bed, where there was a sliding glass door to a second floor balcony, and pulled the curtain aside. This door faced south, and was on the southeastern corner of the house. Just as I pulled the drapes aside, there was an extremely bright light up about ten feet over my head and to my left, outside the door. This light was about the size of a cantaloupe, and glided down and to my right, finally coming to hover at about my eye hight (judging from the position of the door handle relative to me, I was about 3'8" tall or so). I wasn't at all afraid. The light glowed bluish-white, and it seemed that the light was thick, almost like water. It was the brightest light I've ever seen in my life but it didn't hurt my eyes. It seemed as if there was a beam coming from it to me, and that beam was what was 'thick'-it seemed as if it had substance, unlike ordinary light. I don't know how long I stood there watching it, and I don't recall it going away or going back to bed myself. In the morning I told my parents all about it, and they at first said I had been dreaming, until my father went to the general store and heard another local man talking about bright lights he had seen while walking his dog. I remember that it was a cold night and very clear, and there was no moon that I recall. There were no leaves on the trees at the time. I never saw anything like this again, but I never forgot it. Later on, I saw the triangle UFOs that everyone saw.

I am a registered nurse, married for 12 years. I don't consider myself out of the ordinary or someone that this kind of thing happens to all the time. This was the only encounter I remember besides the many occasions we all saw the triangle UFOs when I was in highschool. In 1978 I would have been in the third grade. It is just as clear to me today as it was the day it happened, and my parents still remember me telling them about it and the name of the man who also said he saw lights when it was discussed the following day.
