Full Description & Details

One night in Mid-June, 2000, my mother and myself were sitting on the front porch talking. We like to sit outside at night and talk and look at the stars. There is very little light from local cities where we live and we have a wonderful view of the stars. Anyway, where we live is under the flight path for planes flying from Memphis to Nashville, TN. Our porch faces North. Planes that fly over head move from West South West to East North East. My mother was the first to notice the light. It had just come over the northern horizon and was moving very slowly. The light was moving from north to south. There was no secondary blinking light like a plane would have. Unlike the jets that passed overhead, this had no noise. At first we thought it was flying high up in the sky. However, as it drew closer we realized it was flying lower. At first Id thought it was 20,000 to 25,000 feet up. Once it got close I realized it was around 500 to 1000 feet up. As I got under it, it seemed more like 100 feet. Its size was about that of a basketball. Nothing else to it, just a round light. As it got closer and we realized it was lower we were suprised there was no engine noise. When the object got close to over head I grabbed my flashlight and went out into the yard and shone the light from the flashlight upon the light. When I did this I realized it was only about 100 feet up and I still heard no sound. When I flashed the light onto the object, it dimmed out. Kinda like turning off a light with a dimmer switch. The light was bright and then dimmed to total darkness where it disappeared.
