I went outside at 10.40p.m. to lock my car. It was extemely cold and the sky was very clear. I immediately noticed 2 bright orange lights moving slowly in the sky. I called my 16 year old daughter straight away to come and have a look. Coincidently, my neighbour had just got home from work and I called her over, so there were 3 of us. The lights were in the same line of sight of a flight path in our area and there was a plane heading for the airport at the time. We live not too far from Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne, Australia. This gave us something relative to compare the lights to. One light was higher than the other and they seemed to be moving down, then across to the left. They were much slower than the plane. We felt that they were closer to us than the plane was. They then seemed to alternatively hover and move slowly for a few minutes. Then the lower one started moving away from us first. Then both the lights seemed to move away very quickly,and get smaller until they were pinpoints, then they disappeared. They moved much faster than a plane or helicopter could have. We were watching all of this for about five minutes, so it gave us alot of time to quiz each other on whether we could hear rotor blades or engines. There was no noise. We agreed that they weren,t planes or helicopters.
