Size of Object(s)250/300 wide x 200 ft long Distance to Object(s) & Altitude1000 ft Shape of Object(s)long triangle? Color of Object(s):couldn't tell Full Description & DetailsA friend and I saw a large (maybe 250 to 300 feet across) black triangle shaped object out in the desert one night. There was NO sound coming from it, and it hoovered about 700 to 1000 feet above the ground. We were out on the desert, near Giant Rock (a well-known place near Landers, Ca.), riding dirt bikes at the time. We were wondering if the Tweenty-Nine Palms Marine Corps. Base was doing any drills that night, as we usually like to go there and watch them from a distance. The M.C. base is on the other side of Means Dry Lake, and we often see lights (flares with parachutes) launched from there. At the time of the encounter, I owned 5 acres of land and a house just outside Landers. Giant Rock is about 4 to 5 miles from my house, and we can see most of what's going on when the M.C. does its excersizes. We thought we saw something going-on over on the lake bed, so we decided to jusm on our bikes and take a closer look. When we got there, I noticed that some of the stars weren't shining. This made me more than a little curious, so I drove down closer. I noticed that the closer I went to where the stars were blotted-out, the more the "thing" moved! I didn't want to get too close, so I stayed back and let my buddy cath up with me. I guess I was about less than a half mile when I stopped, and this thing was huge. I used to fly ultra-light airplanes back then, I have 20/15 vision, and can tell the distance of just about anything. (I know, "at night, it's hard to tell anything" !) This is the first experience I've had with things of this nature, and the very first time I've written anything about it. I tried to tell some of my friends about it, and got laughed at... So I shut-up about it until now. I'm wondering if the U.S.Govt. is doing some "secret tests", or if what I saw has another explaination. My buddy, who saw it also, isn't alive any more, so I can't substantiate my viewing. His family wanted to know what we'd been drinking at the time. (We don't drink!) Sure wish I'd had a video camera that night. I would have taken a picture of "nothing", with stars all around it!
