I remember leaving the station after work, and glancing up at the Tribune tower for a simple "time check". The evening was crisp, and the low cloud cover was spotty. The first thing i saw was two red lights about the size of softballs, spaced wide apart and connected to a very dark "thinnish" shape of some sort. .. long, thin, and "certainly thinner than an airplane or helicoter ought to be".. i remember thinking.

I continued walking to the car, while looking up at the Tribune tower clock..and when i reached the car (an old grey, late 50's Nash Rambler, a loaner, from the husband of long time Bay Area newsperson Belva Davis)..i stopped with my hand on the drivers side door handle, and watched the following event..

....The "UFO" seemed to be "playing a game" of trying to balance itself on some " invisible fulcrum point", some 100-200 feet above the American flag. After about three minutes, the vehicle (it was a solid object) seemed to "slip" out of it's "balance perch"..and began to rock back and forth in a falling leaf fashion...as it did, it began to rock faster and faster until it resembled a giant sized " baby's cradle" rocking so fast in the air until the spotlight illuminating the American flag, made the UFO look like a half moon.. floating just above the Tribune building!

...the rocking began to slow down after about 50 seconds...the "half moon effect ended soon after, ...the red lights on both ends turned off, and the now dark shaped

object began to slowly drift off in a south easterlydirection, in a direction i fgured that would take it over the Nimitz freeway, and in the general direction of the city of Alameda.

Seeing the UFO moving, i decided to follow it... as best i could, i kept it in view until i and the object, reached an area where the Alameda tunnel (northward to Oakland ) becomes Harrson street. I got out of the car and watched as it aproached, slowly, and completely dark, and floated silently over a small city park which at that time had a couple of old railroad cars . The underside looked "like the belly of a whale"!.. all of which made no "physical sense".. based on what i had just seen moments earlier!, "up closer" this object looked nowhere near as "nimble" as it had before!

The UFO was huge! easily as big around as a large submarine, but not as bulbous as the Goodyear blimp. It was completely silent...the only noise i heard in the Harrison street / Alameda tube area at the time was the sound of a passing locomotive somewhere close by. The object drifted overhead and over the Nimitz freeway...i lost track of the UFO at that point. I then drove over to the Alameda end of the Posey tube hoping to see it again, but i never did.
