In July 1984, I was still in USAF stationed at Holloman AFB in New Mexico, my dad had dies the previous january, so I was back and forth out to Idaho with his estate intrests.

My father in law, Ollie was driving me down to Elpaso, although it's been so long I cannot remeber if I was going down to the airport, or just going down to help him move stuff, as I often did.

Anyway, we were driving south on hiway 54. It was a typical new Mexico day, clear pale blue skies, few clouds and about 95 degrees. About 2 or 3 miles south of a little old town named Orogrande, which is not much more than a wide spot in the road anymore, I saw something up ahead on the left side of the road hovering over the rail road tracks. As we got closer I knew this was no cruise missle test from fort Bliss, or white sands missle range, it was right on the hiway practically. Ollie slowed down, and I told him to stop, so we did. Being 24 at the time, I jumped out of the car and ran across the hiway to get a better look. Ollie meanwhile is yelling at me to get back in the car.

This thing was big, and hovered over the power lines running next to the Rail road tracks, I supposed it was maybe 15-20 feet above them., it was not moving at the time.

I started to hike up a telephone pole to get closer, but could'nt get any grip to climb, so I stood there, all the while Ollie is yelling to get back in the car.To discribe it, I would have to say it was about 20 feet wide, and about twice as long. It appeared to have a sort of running lights, for and aft. Red, blue, and green.

I studied it for manufacter marks, but could not determine how the appernt metal was joined to make the shape of the unit.I saw no welds or rivets, or joints of any kind. I could see atop the unit that there was for lack of a better tern a "cockpit", inside seemed to be quite bright, almost white. The unit made no sound at all. and no wind was present that day, so no dust was flying. I did'nt notice weather any cars had gone by to see it also, but ollie said none had. I was yelling to ollie.."My KINGDOM for a camara!!!" About that time, it strted moving, very slow, maybe 5 MPH north still above the tracks, it had gone about 100 yards when it crossed over the hiway heading north west. Ollie was still yelling and sounded a bit frantic, and was coasting south on the side of the road, he was already about 250 yards from where he stopped originally. As the unit went over the hiway to the west I started walking to the car, I got in and we watched it cruise slowy out into the desert away from the hiway, like it had all the time in the world. I looked forward , and said some things to ollie, and when I looked back, it was gone. I was never afraid of it, nor did I feel any impending doom or danger. Ollie sure must have tho. I kept talking about it, the whole time I was with Ollie, and he kept telling me to forget about it. ollie never admitted what we saw to my wife or her mother, he laughed and said it was a helicopter. But privately he admitted he saw what I saw.

I did'nt know why he would'nt admit it to any of our family, until he died in 1992 when talking to my ex wife ( his daughter) about it. She said that the reason he probably did'nt talk about it is that he had had two nervous break downs in the past, and did'nt want anyone to think he was crazy again. That explains why when Ollie and I talked about that day, he would say, "I've seen some weird stuff in my life" ollie was a Msgt in the USAF security police until he was forced to retire when he had his break downs.

I never talked about it to anyone , except friends, I don't know if they believe me either, but I could care less. I saw what I saw I was not out to see this stuff, I'm from Minnesota, and thought UFO's were a bunch of Bullshit.

Anyway theres the story...first time I told anyone other than family.
