a little after 2000 hrs, in march of 1995-6, i observed hovering lights over an old abandoned mill site, an open field. I was about 1/2 mile away at the time. as i am a big plane buff, i thought i was seeing a helo, so i drove to a location approx 200 yards from where the object was hovering. it was only about 150' off the ground. as soon as i stopped, i knew i was not looking at a helo. the object was huge, a minimum of 300' from wingtip to wingtip(it was backlit against the darkening sky) it appeared to be entirely black in color, and it was not making any noise. it was hovering and pivoting in place. there were 6 lights on the leading edge of the object, they glowed like a tv or computer monitor, did not project a beam. as the object pivoted, it was apparent that it was not nearly as long as wide. the wing finally pivoted and headed north along the main street of westwood, following the rail road tr5acks. i was able to pace it, at no time did it exceed 22 mph. it stopped again, again i got out and watched it. no noise, no obvious lights other than the ones on the leading edge of the wings. as it continued north, i drove to my house, got my wife and 17 yr old son onto the front porch. the object drifted directly over my house, all of us saw it. it was at this time that i could see that it was about 50-60' long from the leading to the trailing edge of the wing. again, the span was at least 300'. the wing went over my house, we went to the back porch to watch it. it stopped, hovered, pivoted around and headed back in the direction it had come from. as it pivoted, a very faint sound was heard, like a jet engine at a great distance. the object passed back over our house, followed the tracks back to where i had originally seen it, and it was joined by another object of similar size. both moved across the field and headed for a lake that borders our town, went out of my sight. a friend of mine saw them near the west end of the lake a few minutes later, and they disappeared from his view. he saw them at a distance of perhaps 1/2 a mile. these objects were in this area a week or so before the "lights over phoenix." the lights over phoenix appear to be similar, but at a great distance. my view was very close up. the area we live in is very rural, is surrounded by mountains, and once below the tops, there is zero radar coverage from reno, redding, oakland or klammath falls. we are within 100 air miles of several military bases. the objects have never been seen by me or my acquaintances again.

lots of ufo's seen by me in this area, some are just lights, others are actual objects, most have been at a distance, this one is an exception. fax drawing will be sent 2-22-05
