Full Description & Details

Thank you for your interesting insight and curiosity about this issue. Your

approach to understand physically what is going on with some UFO sightings

parallels what I do at NIDS. The gravitational lensing effect you mentioned

as a hypothesis is a valid idea given that our advisory board chairman (a

prominent physicist) and myself have proposed explanations for UFO

propulsion that are based on spacetime metric modification, which would lead

to the optical effects you outlined below. Gravitational lensing would be a

byproduct of manipulating spacetime in a tight envelope around a vehicle, or

also the effect of a traversable wormhole appearing through which a vehicle

would travel from another location in spacetime or dimensions. See my

recent MUFON Symposium paper and slides:

http://www.nidsci.org/articles/davis/davis_mufon2001.pdf

http://www.nidsci.org/articles/davis/davis_mufon2001slides.pdf

The slides, however, have examples of how a wormhole intersecting our local

space would look optically to observers. The effect would reproduce what

you described below. So yes, a gravitational lensing effect is at play.

You would be surprised as to how it occurs to only a very few people to

think about these things carefully and in-depth, like you did.

Eric W. Davis, Ph.D., FBIS Aerospace Physics & Astrophysics Div. NIDS

>> My name is Daniel Lindblom, I live in the Boston area.

>>

>> I had a thought about some of the UFO sightings and reports I have been

>> reading for more than 40 years. Some, not all seem to have a number of

>> common features in the eye witness description. I would like to emphasize

>> that I am suggesting an explanation of only a segment of the total population

>> of events. I do believe there are other events that have other explanations,

>> but I have spent the time looking at this segment.

>>

>> Description items: 1. Fuzzy borders of the image in the air, it even seems

>> to shimmer 2. No sound at all 3. Regular movement through the sky, then

>> blinding speed at impossible vector 4. Size that exceeds structural capacity

>> of "sheer, moment" here on earth 5. The UFO never touches the ground or

>> comes in contact with any physical structure 6. They appear huge and far

>> away

>>

>> All the above points I can duplicate in my darkened living room. In a smoky

>> room it even looks better. Using a simple pinhole light box I can have an

>> image on the wall or on the smoke field do all of the above.

>>

>> When I made this mental connection I called some physics department heads at

>> Princeton, MIT, U. Chicago, Georgia Tech. In space the same physical elements

>> occur naturally as in the pinhole light box. Gravity Lensing would in fact

>> account for every one of the six points. There is even math calculation on

>> how to determine the light source for a rainbow. Most of the men I called

>> doubted the relationship because they, at the time, assumed that Gravity

>> lenses were a rare occurrence. In a recent public announcement from Hubble

>> NASA center they see gravity lensing effects almost every where in the sky.

>> Distance is not a major concern for a projected image through space. Time

>> itself can even be distorted.

>>

>> A powerful light source. A lensing or even multiple lensings. Receptive

>> atmospherics for the image projection. It doesn't take much.

>>

>> Gravity lensing even accounts for light and time. There are some very

>> interesting papers about the time lensing stuff. What

>> did disturb all the men I called is that they would have to admit that the

>> original image does exist someplace, sometime.

>>

>> Just a few thought to brighten up a boring day.
