urban downtown LA I was driving north on Vermont Avenue near Wilshire Blvd. The objects were overhead to my west.

I saw a strange trail of glowing gas in the dark sky. It stood out brightly from the rest of the sky. It seemed to glow white, one end of the trail faded into many colors. It seemed to emit it's own source of light. Nearby in the sky there was a bizarre cone of light. It was moving away from the gas trail. The point of the cone seemed to be the front -- it was moving in the direction of it's point. This tells me that the light cone was not made by an airplane's headlights unless the plane was flying backwards. It was as if light was being swallowed by something -- drained into that cone. Then it vanished. The gas trail remained and slowly dissipated over the next half an hour. It continued to glow.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?
