Size of Object(s)

The orange UFO was about half the size of the tip of a finger if held up in front of us. The white objects were much smaller.

Distance to Object(s) & Altitude

The UFO was several miles away and maybe 7,000 ft. high.

Description of Area / Surroundings

It was both rural and semi-urban. About 50,000 people lived in the Provo, Utah area then with about 28,000 students on campus. A large steel plant was located in nearby Orem, Utah then.

Full Description & Details

Several 100 students at BYU & I were walking back from a basketball game about 10 p.m. when we all saw a pulsating orange object approaching Utah Lake to the west in the distance.

Since the campus is set on a plateau above Utah Valley and Provo, we had a clear view of the UFO which stopped above the lake. It then released 3 smaller white lights which descended at equal intervals slowly & disappeared or faded out as they came closer to the lake surface. The orange UFO then changed direction and disappeared quikcly to the south.

I drove a car full of friends in my '65 Mustang out towards the lake, but we all hesitated worried about what we might find. A Civil Air Patrol airplane passed us overhead, going to the lake area. The next day there was no mention of either the UFO or the airplane in the local newspaper or on the Salt Lake City TV stations.
