At 03:53 am, local time (-6h gmt), 12-oct-05 my wife and I observed a point of light moving at variable speed in a straight line through the sky. The point appeared to accelerate to a speed faster speed than could be explained by an aeroplane then suddenly slowed and changed direction, almost 180 degrees. The point moved back a small distance (about a third of the total distance we had seen it travelling) and disappeared. The whole event lasted approximately 30 seconds.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

The characteristics that suggest the sighting was a UFO are the fact that the object accelerated rapidly (like a meteorite), changed direction suddenly then disappeared. There was no noise to indicate that it could be a helicopter or airplane.
