Comet with large white tail appeared in the northwestern night sky, but the lighted tail began to move in all sorts of directions over a wide expanse with first the white trail, then sparkly glittery multi-colored tail skipping and streaking horizontally, vertically, in loops, across the western sky toward the south from my viewpoint of the 101 freeway in west Phoenix. Full Description & Details

October 31, 2005 (sighting October 29th - west Phoenix).

I had just passed Avondale, Arizona heading east on I-10 Saturday night, and I had then turned north onto the 101 Freeway (west Phoenix).

Traveling north, I saw a white streak in the northwestern dark sky and thought at first it might be a flare, but when it seemed suddenly to move, I then thought it must be a comet and I wanted to find the nearest exit ramp to watch it for a minute or two. Before I could come near to any off-ramp, this light began to move in various angles, intermittently going dark, and then re-appearing as a sparkly red, green, varieted rainbow glittery dust looking trail as it passed quickly horizontally south toward the Estrella Mountains area it seemed to me. As I was driving in heavy freeway traffic, I could only glance occasionally out my driver's side window and I wondered that if this were a fireworks display it would not be circling, looping, going suddenly vertically as it was doing. Then I lost sight of it for a few seconds, and then it reappeared again to the Northwest of my driver's sighting and this time there were two metallic pointed objects seen in the high distant sky flying side by side and both leaving the multi-colored glittery trail, this time doing a coiling loop over one another as they passed horizontally back toward the south. I lost sight of the lights as I approached Glendale Avenue off-ramp and the 101 freeway.

I felt that it might have been an air show with some new night light capability but it was definitely jet-speed or faster as it all happened over a wide distance very quickly. I had the feeling that was a joyous exuberance of this Thing having a party and quite artistically having a fun time of painting the Saturday night sky.

Today, I spoke to my niece who lives in Buckeye, Arizona and related to her about this strange sighting that was so pretty to see but strange! She says she has often seen such as this near the Estrella Mountains area and she feels it is some sort of UFO or classified activity. She knew what I was trying to describe and says she has seen the same before.

Since I have no idea who to ask about such a thing, I looked on the web for WEST PHOENIX NIGHT LIGHT and up came your web page. I would, of course, like to know what joyous thing I saw Saturday night and am wondering why nothing was in the newspaper Sunday about it ... Thank you for listening.
