Appearance / Description of Object(s)
The two that went over us seemed of the same design. Both were apparently perfectly round, with a circle in the center which didn't seem to glow. It was darker than the thick outer ring, which seemed always to show up better in the darkness. The saucer that went over us the closest had two warm glows, spaced directly across from one another, a light red. The craft didn't fly with the "dimples" at either side, though; it moved with them at an angle. Throughout the entire occurance, we had the car stopped and turned off, and everything was perfectly silent. They didn't make a sound.
Size of Object(s)
I don't even want to guess at the size...but I'll say looking up at it was like holding a frisbee approximately a foot above your head and looking up at it. I could've hit it with a beebee gun, from the closeness. And I imagine it was 40 feet in diameter maybe. My friend claims he's positive they were bigger, and further away.
Description of Area / Surroundings
Very rural. Country roads with crop fields, though we had an open expanse on either side, no tall plants. Very open, out in the middle of nowhere, north of town.
Full Description & Details
Tonight, driving NE of town, at around 350 N, we saw the following:
Bright light, yellow and diamond-shaped, situated low on the horizon. It appeared at first to be like a radio tower, and I was watching it til it shut off; then, after about eight seconds, it reappeared in the same spot; this time, as it went out again, Michael and I noticed a series of smaller, white-red lights that seemed to alternate between white and red at a frequency of two to three times per second, making them look like a pulse or a twinkle. Two of them were descending from the bright light, or where it had been, at different angles. Once again it appeared, and disappeared, and this time shot more off another toward the west.
There were five in all, two moving in a pattern for a good deal of the time it seemed, though on occasion they would split off in different directions. These two were sighted numerously, and when first we saw them, one sped up at a moment's notice, while the other dropped back a bit.
.
.
The lights would pulse as they moved, and then randomly flash a bright white pulse in varied intervals. For a good deal of the time, one would flash 1-1-1-1, in four pulse intervals followed by three to four seconds of pause. Then it would flash once, or twice, and go dormant for long periods. Each one did this, though not necessarily coordinating. It seemed almost as if they were signalling one another, or the bright light which had appeared perfectly stationary to us was being signalled, though it had moved and was sighted well out of our vision. They would sweep slowly at times, and randomly speed up, making wide U's but tapering off at the ends into a different direction. Once, the two that appeared to be flying in unison made a deep U, and then as they rose, one broke off in a V, heading North.
Again, we saw the bright white light flash to the North, and then as I looked to the West, we saw one of the distant lights moving slowly toward the west side of town, only to suddenly plummet at a speed far far too great for any plane ever seen. Once it had dipped, it shifted off toward the north, again lazily drifting as the others went about their way. For several minutes they moved around, mostly towards the West side of town, and into it from the North, headed South West.
Eventually, the two that were in pattern moved directly over us, though initially it seemed that only one would; I wasn't paying attention to its partner. It could be discerned that the "light" was a disc, with a center that seemed dark, and an outer ring that was able to pulse a red-white or bright white glow, not as if several hundreds of lights were attached to it, but as if the entire outer ring were one large screen. As it moved, it was entirely silent, just as the others had been before it; the car was off, there was no music, and it was low-flying. The lights on it were predominantly half-circle shaped, on either side, giving the resemblance of wing lights. It didn't move with the lights, though--if the lights were indeed on wings, the craft would've been moving diagonally.
After this first one passed over us, the second came, this one far far lower than the last, and it too was entirely silent. We didn't hear anything, but the inner disc and outer ring were very visable. As it moved directly above us, the two lights on the "wings" grew brighter, and slid in perfect unison toward the "front" of the craft, merging into one bright white light aimed toward the last craft. Then the light pulsed briefly, and slid back a bit, only to merge again, then split apart and slide back in two red lights back toward the "wings." It continued to flicker for a moment, as it moved away. This had been very very close, low-flying like a plane about to land; due to how close it was, it was easier to discern that the lights had a glow to their edges, and weren't simply bulbs; they seemed "warm," that's the only way to describe it.
It wasn't until after they'd moved off did we think to flash the lights, and we flashed a few times in 1-1-1-1 intervals, and once just twice, 1-1. For a short time afterward, we sighted two of the craft moving in unison again, and then within ten minutes they were gone.
Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?
Definitely not natural. They zipped and darted at 90 degree and stronger angles, with no loss of speed; they were completely silent. If they were man-made, it wasn't America; I can't help but think Bush would be dropping bombs with those things if he could show them off. And if it's not America, I don't know who it would be...
Witness Background
Three years of college, presently taking time off and working at home. I was a Philosophy major; I was screwing up too hard. C'est la vie.
Views on UFOs, before and after sighting
I was very into UFO's when I was younger, but I certainly didn't expect to witness them; it revived my interest, obviously since I sought your site out. But I really haven't told more than a handful of people.
Reported Sighting? Yes
Reported To: Friend called the police, they brushed him off. His girl friend doesn't even believe they're extraterrestrial. She thinks we saw something, but it was (at most) an experimental jet.
