Description of Area / Surroundings

Purely a rural residential area with open areas between buildings and a large cranberry bog nearby. Trees were sparce and lower then. A small field tyo the west of our home Ahouse then field and the cranberry bog to the east. Ssarse trees to the east along stone wall.

My parents father still alive, both observed a metallic cigar shaped arial object traveling at high speed and treetop level fly over our house. My fathers discpiption is that there were no visible wings or controll surfaces on this object. Further it had no visible means of propulsion. Interestingly, it emitted a humming sound. My dad wondered to himself quote "What is keeping it up there." My father had been a hot caseman , on a five inch antiaircraft gun, during. the second world war, and was quite familliar with aircraft shapes . He in fact used to draw these complete for his children. He and my mother never forgot this shocking, and very unusual sighting.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

This object could not have been a star or planet, it was daylight. My mother and father wondered if it was manmade.
