It was a square type object with two lights that seemed to fill up the square.

As high as the minium for flying for helicopters. As far, about two "telephone poles" away.

Rural, well we live in rural Southern Applachia...We are near the Great Smokys National Park (about 5-15 miles away)

When I first looked at it, It looked like a helicopter but when I got a better look, It was going to slow. It went on for about 5-6 minutes then dissapered behind the trees. My brother said that he could still see it after and said that somthing green "Beam" ed out of the bottom, but he might have been lieing about that part.

Can sighting be explained as any conventional man-made or natural object?

It might be but it is highly unlikly, for it was to short to be an airplane and going to slow for it to be a helicopter or an airplane.
