I guess it was a glowing ball. I did not personally notice it until review.

Camp pendleton is nearby (east), San Onofre nuclear power plant is up the coast, nothing too important southbound though.

Basically, I was taking pictures with my Canon Rebel XT at the Oceanside pier. Later on that evening, I was reviewing the pictures and noticed the strange formation in the shot. I have the picture in full resolution (8.2mp) and the EXIF data for the picture below:
